Mid District History
The Mid-Michigan Turf Association (MMTA) was established in 1980 with the objective of advancing the art and science of turf management along with collecting and disseminating practical and scientific knowledge of problems associated with turf and landscape management. The MMTA was a chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) for 27 years and supported the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation (MTF) by hosting an annual fundraiser in which all proceeds were donated to the MTF. The MMTA held a geographical area that covered Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, Port Huron and the entire thumb of Michigan. The first president of the MMTA, Gerald Faubel CGCS, was elected president of the GCSAA in 1990.
