Josh Shaw, the 2020 State Champion

The Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association (MiGCSA) has a new State Champion. On August 18th MiGCSA Members came to Timber Ridge Golf Club in Bath, MI to compete in the 13th annual MiGCSA State Championship. The host Superintendent at Timber Ridge is Bob Stipcak, CGCS.

The event started at 10:00 with perfect conditions. Defending two time State Champion Jim Apsey, Equipment Manager at Spring Lake Country Club, was on hand to defend his title. Only a few rounds in the 70’s on a tough layout and set up. The 2020 State Champion was Josh Shaw, Superintendent at Timber Trace in Pickney who shot a one over par 73. Finishing second overall in the competition was MiGCSA Past President Jeff Holmes, CGCS of Egypt Valley with a personal lifetime best of 75 to win the low net contest with a net 63. Thanks to a special exemption from the Michigan Section of the PGA Josh will head to the Michigan Open to compete in 2021.
