The Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association (MiGCSA) has a new State Champion. On August 28th MiGCSA Members came to The Emerald Golf Club in St. Johns, MI to compete in the 12th annual MiGCSA State Championship. The host Superintendent at The Emerald is Troy Looney along with host MiGCSA Member and Past President (2011/12) and State Champion (2009) Jay Eccleton, CGCS.
The event started at 10:00 with lightning fast greens and perfect conditions. Defending State Champion Jim Apsey Equipment Manager at Spring Lake Country Club was on hand to defend his title. In the end Jim Apsey and Jay Eccleton both tied at 75 and went to a sudden death playoff. Jim won with a par on the first playoff hole to defend his title and return to the Michigan Open to compete in 2020. The 2019 Low Net Champion was Ryan Maxwell the Superintendent at Idyl Wyld Golf Course.
