The Mines Golf Club is a Mike Devries design that opened in August 2005. The course features 18 holes and a full practice facility. The Mines was selected by Golf Digest as the tenth “Best New Public Golf Course Under $75” in 2006. It is located above a portion of the old gypsum mines, 5 minutes from the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The site features mature hardwoods, rolling terrain, and sandy soils. The course features bent grass greens and tees with bluegrass fairways. Approximately 30 bunkers dot the property. The Mines is a par 70 that measures 6701 yards, with a slope of 137. The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the successful operation of the Golf Course Maintenance Department and Clubhouse Grounds Maintenance. The Superintendent works closely with ownership on all aspects of the maintenance operation, as well as interaction with the Head Golf Professional to maximize the number of rounds of golf played by scheduling maintenance practices around normal play and outings to maximize efficiency.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to: Manage, supervise, delegate, and oversee the overall maintenance of the golf course grounds, practice areas and clubhouse facilities to elevate The Mines quality of excellence. Someone who is hands on with hard work ethic that will supervise and participate in the maintenance of the course, repair of equipment, and ensure proper operation of the irrigation system.
Train new and existing employees in job function, equipment operation, guest service standards and departmental information. Monitor daily job performances of employees and ensure productivity. Ensure that all equipment is used safely and correctly. Oversee the maintenance of golf course equipment.
In depth Knowledge of management and maintenance of golf course turfgrass and perform regular irrigation assessment of all playing surfaces to adjust and make corrections to provide a uniform and quality surface.
Provide technical, operational, and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, State and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. Oversee subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products. Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the facility’s grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain accurate records of chemical, fertilizer, an irrigation inventories.
Skilled in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.
Interpersonal skills to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, officials, employees, golf course patrons and neighbors.
Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play.
