Construction has begun on Kalamazoo Country Club’s new 11-hole short course, with a full Andrew Green-designed, 18-hole championship course set to follow.
Green, who visited the Michigan property last week, shaped several holes on-site. “I looked out over this vista and said, ‘This is a golf cathedral,’” Green said while reflecting on his first impressions of the site.
“I am truly excited to see how Andrew Green reimagines our 145 acres to create a championship-level golf course that is going to be worthy enough to host the best of the best amateur golf tournaments,” Kalamazoo general manager and Greenleaf Hospitality Group CEO Tim Rayman said. “To think that our existing clubhouse, 18-hole golf course, short course, driving range and all amenities will now be dedicated to 18 holes of championship golf is exciting."
The course will be divided into two distinct loops: Blue Loop and Red Loop. Designed for players of all skill levels, and an alternative to traditional 9 or 18-hole play, allowing for shorter, faster rounds that are big on creativity and strategy.
In August, construction will begin for the course’s 18-hole championship course and is expected to open for member play in 2027. This project represents a milestone for Green, as it will be his first original full 18-hole course design. The new layout will increase total green space by 30 percent, from 83,000 to 117,000 square feet, enhancing playability and elevating the competitive experience.
“Kalamazoo is going to have a golf course that attracts membership from all over to play - not just because it’s new,” Green said, “but because it’s memorable.”
