Sam Holysz Equipment Manager of the Year Award

The MiGCSA EM Committee is proud to honor the memory and legacy of Sam Holysz by renaming the Equipment Manager of the Year Award to the Sam Holysz Equipment Manager of the Year Award. Sam was the EM at Gull Lake Country Club before tragically losing his life in October 2020. He was an active member of both GCSAA and MiGCSA, playing a key role in helping organize educational events, mentoring mechanics new to the industry, and promoting the Equipment Manager position. His kindness, generosity, passion, and all-around positive energy left a lasting impression on all those who knew and met him.

Along with being a standout Equipment Manager, Sam was an avid outdoorsman. Many late nights (and into the early mornings) Sam could be found floating some sort of southwestern Michigan waterway bowfishing for carp, but always eager the check reels and cut quality the next morning no matter how much sleep he got that night. He also served our country as a coastguardsman in the United States Coastguard, something Sam was very proud of. No matter what he was doing, Sam would always answer your call. And when asked “How are you doing Sam” his reply was “Finer than frog hair!”

This award serves as a lasting tribute to Sam, ensuring his name, spirit, and legacy will continue to be part of our profession for years to come!
